#1 (and this is why art is important.)

"Like a bird on the wire, like a drunk in a midnight choir, I have tried in my way to be free."
- Leonard Cohen

My freedom is found in singing. Anyone who describes singing to you, will tell you they find release in it. They find expansion and a taste of pure liberation.

I find my freedom through words. I especially find freedom in reading perfectly crafted lines of words, like the ones by Leonard Cohen.

I believe this is our responsibility to ourselves; to discover our own paths to freedom.. and then to share them.

And this is why art is important.

Leonard's art gave me a slice of freedom. What if he believed his pursuits to be trivial?

We've had a tumultuous week in America.

Most of us turned to art, in its many forms, for solace. Art has never turned its back on us.  Art reveals our personal truths to us. Art heals. Art liberates. Art exposes. Art has never lied to us.

And this is why art is important.
